QUALIFICATION AND BACKGROUND

I attended UKCP accredited training in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy and am a member of the Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College (HIPC) UKCP. I am a Member of both the UK, European and international Associations of Transactional Analyses (UKATA,EATA and ITAA).
How I Work
Integrity, trustworthiness, a willingness to be honest and real with clients are
my main qualities. I value genuineness and respect, these values shape my style
as a therapist, I believe that everyone as the right to expect open, unconditional
dialogue that encourages recognition of different thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
My focus is on the emotional health of each of my clients and their sense of well-being within the session. With this I provide an impartial, non-judgmental and supportive environment to encourage growth through attaining greater individual awareness, intimacy and spontaneity.
My motivation for being a therapist is to offer opportunity for greater psychological
health and knowledge particularly for adults, so they can recognise and attend to
their issues and in turn improve their impact on others, particularly children.
I work alongside others to reduce the stigma attached to mental and emotional health issues, by finding ways of providing affordable, accessible therapy and learning so that people feel welcome to take up the benefits of having therapy and further education.
I adopt a different approach to many therapists because I offer opportunities to work in therapeutic groups and psycho-educational classes as well as one-to-one and couples therapy. I find working in groups is particularly effective if you want to learn about how you interact and respond in relationship with yourself and others.
Providing opportunities for prevention of issues is incredibly important to me as well as offering healing and repair. My approach to cure is it takes time and is usually a transformational and developmental experience which means I encourage openness to lifelong learning.
Much like physical injuries if damage has occurred it is likely to heal but will
frequently leave a mark and is unlikely to be quite the same again, and if you clip it, it is likely to hurt. Mental and emotional scars are similar if we catch them they will hurt and may cause us to wobble and feel a bit chaotic. This is because they often trigger us back to old painful experiences, so we regress to old behaviour, feeling and thought patterns. Sometimes if this as involved trauma, grief, anxiety,
depression, abuse or anything painful and difficult to overcome it can be challenging to come back to normal everyday functioning. This is where psychotherapeutic interventions can help us transit back.
I am predominantly qualified and practice in Transactional Analysis (TA) I love their
models, concepts and theories because they are complex and robust and able to suit
most client’s needs. I enjoy being a Humanistic and Integrative practitioner whilst
realising other modalities have much to offer; I particularly appreciate Cognitive
Behaviour Therapy, Person Centred, Gestalt and Pyscho-dynamic theories.
One of the cornerstones of TA is the idea that everyone has the choice and ability to
make new decisions about their life and the way ahead whether they have chosen to
change or had change imposed. TA allows us to look at some of our deeper issues,
challenge unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours so we can learn to live more
fulfilled lives, heal old wounds and feel generally better about ourselves.
